GC's Guide to Evaluating Electrical Bids
Bidding & Contractors
As a general contractor, evaluating electrical bids can be challenging. Different subcontractors may include or exclude different items, making comparison difficult. Here's how to evaluate electrical bids effectively.
Scope Comparison
Create a scope comparison matrix. List every major scope item and check which bidders included or excluded it. Common items that vary between bidders include: temporary power, testing, as-built drawings, and permit fees.
Price Analysis
If one bid is significantly lower than others, investigate why. They may have missed scope, used lower-quality materials, or be buying the job. The lowest bid isn't always the best value.
Qualification Review
Verify that bidders have the required licenses, insurance, bonding capacity, and relevant project experience. Ask for references on similar projects.
