The Authority in Nationwide Electrical Estimating

For the past decade, FK Electrical Estimating has provided electrical contractors across the US with detailed material takeoffs, accurate labor calculations, and CSI-formatted bid packages. We work with small family-owned shops and national electrical contractors. Our estimating team reviews blueprints, specifications, and addenda the same way a project manager would — identifying coordination issues, scope gaps, and constructability concerns before they become field problems.

How Our Estimating Team Operates

Lead Estimator — Commercial & Industrial

Primary reviewer for projects over $2M. Handles complex takeoffs including switchgear, distribution equipment, motor control centers, and medium-voltage systems. Reviews all outgoing estimates for scope completeness and pricing accuracy before delivery.

Takeoff Specialists

Perform digital quantity surveys using PlanSwift and Bluebeam Revu. Work from the architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings to capture every device, fixture, cable tray, conduit run, and termination point. Cross-reference counts against specification sections.

Quality Assurance — Final Review

Second set of eyes on every estimate. Verifies quantities against the plan set, checks addenda incorporation, confirms labor unit selection, and reviews pricing against current supplier data. Flags scope gaps or specification conflicts before the estimate goes out.

We do not claim individual credentials we cannot verify. Our team is structured around experience in the field and in the estimating office, not titles.

How We Started

FK Electrical Estimating was founded by estimators who came up through the electrical trade. We saw contractors losing money on bids because they did not have the time or tools to produce accurate quantity surveys. Estimating errors — missed feeders, miscounted devices, overlooked specifications — were eating into margins that were already tight.

We started by helping a few local contractors in Texas with their commercial and residential takeoffs. Over time, we expanded into industrial work, low-voltage systems, and power distribution. The core approach has not changed: we read the drawings, count everything, apply current pricing, and check the work twice. We now work with contractors across all 50 states, including Spanish-speaking contractors who prefer to communicate in their primary language.

What We Do

We produce electrical estimates for contractors who need accurate numbers under tight deadlines. Our team handles the quantity survey, material pricing, and labor calculation so you can focus on managing your current work and bidding more projects.

The construction industry runs on bid deadlines. When you do not have the internal bandwidth to produce an accurate takeoff before bid day, we step in. You pay a flat fee per estimate instead of carrying a full-time estimator's salary, benefits, and software costs through slow periods.

National Coverage with Regional Application

We serve contractors in all 50 states and maintain region-specific labor rate databases for each market. An estimate for a Houston retail build-out uses different productivity factors and prevailing wage data than a similar project in Manhattan or Los Angeles. State code amendments — Title 24 in California, NYC Electrical Code amendments, Chicago Code amendments — are factored into every estimate.

Material pricing is pulled from current supplier data and adjusted for regional variance. Copper wire pricing, switchgear lead times, and conduit costs differ by market and by season.

Software & Tools

We use PlanSwift for on-screen digital takeoffs and Bluebeam Revu for plan markup, quantity extraction, and PDF collaboration. Cost data is cross-referenced against RSMeans, NECA labor units, and direct supplier quotes when available. Estimates are organized by CSI MasterFormat divisions and delivered as editable Excel files with marked-up plan sets.

Typical Project Types We Estimate

Commercial & Industrial

Office buildings, retail centers, hospitals, schools, warehouses, manufacturing plants, and data centers. Our scope includes power distribution, lighting controls, fire alarm, low-voltage infrastructure, and generator systems. Estimates are formatted per CSI MasterFormat Divisions 26, 27, and 28.

Residential & Multi-Family

Single-family homes, townhouse developments, apartment complexes, and condo buildings. We estimate branch circuitry, service entrances, panel schedules, lighting, EV charger rough-ins, and NEC-required arc-fault/GFCI protection per current code cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our company, expertise, and estimating approach.

What is FK Electrical Estimating?

We are an electrical estimating firm based in Austin, Texas. We provide material takeoffs, labor calculations, and bid-ready cost estimates for electrical contractors across all 50 states.

How does your team's experience compare to in-house estimators?

Our estimators have backgrounds in commercial, industrial, and residential electrical work. The primary advantage we offer is scale and speed — we process takeoffs full-time across many projects, while most in-house estimators juggle takeoffs with project management duties.

What estimating software do you use?

PlanSwift for on-screen digital takeoffs, Bluebeam Revu for plan markup and PDF analysis, and RSMeans / NECA labor units for pricing. Deliverables are organized per CSI MasterFormat and provided as editable Excel files with marked-up plan sets.

Can you handle projects outside of Texas?

Yes. We serve all 50 states and maintain regional labor rate databases for each market. Local code requirements and prevailing wage data are incorporated into every estimate.
