Project Examples

Below are recent projects where our quantity takeoffs and cost estimates helped electrical contractors bid competitively and deliver within budget.

These examples show the types of projects we estimate and the level of detail we provide. Each takeoff includes material quantities by CSI division, NECA-based labor hours, current market pricing, and marked-up plan sets. Accuracy relative to final construction cost depends on drawing completeness, scope changes during construction, and field conditions not reflected in the bid documents.

How These Estimates Were Produced

Each estimate in these case studies followed the same process: plan review, digital quantity takeoff using PlanSwift or Bluebeam Revu, material pricing using current supplier data and RSMeans, labor calculations using NECA labor units adjusted for project-specific conditions, and a final quality check by a second estimator before delivery.

Accuracy relative to final construction cost depends on several variables: completeness of the design drawings, addenda issued during bidding, scope changes during construction, and field conditions not reflected in the bid documents. We do not guarantee a fixed accuracy percentage because every project is different. We do guarantee that every estimate goes through a two-review process and that quantities are verified against the plan set.

How We Compare to In-House Estimating

Contractors outsource electrical estimating for two main reasons: they do not have the internal bandwidth to produce takeoffs before bid deadlines, or they want a second set of eyes on complex projects. Our estimators work on takeoffs full-time across multiple project types, which means we see a broader range of construction details, specifications, and pricing conditions than most in-house estimators who split their time between takeoffs and project management.

Sample Deliverables

Below are examples of the deliverables included with every estimate. These are mockups showing the format and level of detail we provide.

Marked-Up Blueprint

Every counted device and fixture is marked directly on the plan set for field verification.

Sample RFI

When discrepancies are found between drawings and specifications, we issue RFIs for clarification before completing the estimate.

RFI-014 — ELECTRICAL
Project: 120,000 SF Office Tower
RFI #: 014
From: FK Electrical Estimating
Date: 2026-03-15
To: Design Team / GC
Status: Open
Spec Section: 26 05 00
Drawing: E-203, E-601
Question:

Drawing E-203 (Lighting Plan - Level 02) shows 8 LED fixtures in Room 02-A labeled as "LED-2x2-20W". However, Lighting Fixture Schedule on Sheet E-601 lists the fixture in Room 02-A as "LED-2x4-30W" (Catalog # LNR-24-30-UNV-D10). This discrepancy affects both fixture count and branch circuit loading.

Suggested Resolution:

Request confirmation of correct fixture type for Room 02-A. If fixture schedule is correct (LED-2x4-30W), lighting plan should be updated to reflect correct symbol. If lighting plan is correct (LED-2x2-20W), fixture schedule should be updated. Impact: 0.8A difference per fixture x 8 fixtures = 6.4A total difference on branch circuit LP-2B.
